Saundersfoot began life as a few medieval cottages in a forest clearing in Coedrath, a hunting ground of the Norman Earls of Pembroke. 500 years later, in the early 1800's anthracite coal was discovered. Such was the demand for this coal that in 1829 Saundersfoot Harbour was built and connected by rail to six mines. 150 years on when the coal industry vanished Saundersfoot evolved into the seaside resort we know and love today.
Leading Out To Sea
Coppet Hall is a small beach situated at the end of Saundersfoot beach. In the past this was an important area for the shipping of locally mined coal. Nowdays it's important for the sun worshippers and dog walkers instead.
To the right is Monkstone Point and to the left you can just make out the outline of the Gower.
